United StatesThis substrate is great if you're trying to achieve ADA's style of nature aquariums. It does not handle frequent uprootings of plants well, as it makes a huge mess, but it does contain plenty of nutrients to make plants grow extremely well. This is especially helpful when the aquarium is freshly planted to encourage plants to outcompete algae. Paired with low concentration of water column fertilizers, this is about as "foolproof" as ADA's system gets. Plant growth slows noticeably after ~6 months in my experience as the nutrients leech out, but you can then use root tabs or increase water column fertilization. After a year, most nutrients will be used by the plants so heavier water column ferts are needed to prevent plants from stalling. My only complaint is that it really doesn't handle uprooting plants very well as the granules will break down over time into a mud. Plant growth is incredible however, so if you don't plan to uproot your plants frequently then you should be fine. If you're not one to keep an aquascape for longer than a year, this is a great substrate to use. If you plan to keep your scape running for longer than that, or you are the type to rearrange groups of plants frequently, I'd use something inert that won't break down as Amazonia does. The photos I've added show the tank 6 weeks after setup, then at 3 months.
