NanoSlim HOB Filter - ALA

The NanoSlim filtration system is suitable for most smaller aquarium tanks. Featuring a thinner black-opaque form, the NanoSlim will blend in effortlessly with your aquarium surroundings. Installation and maintenance is made easy as the filter unobtrusively hangs off the back of your aquarium.

  • This new patented structure with non-return valve ensures that no water flows back when powered off.  After the power supply is on, water will circulate quickly.
  • High quality silent design is adopted to prevent the pump from making noise when operating.
  • Nano and small sizes include bio media and carbon filter cartridges.
  • Bio-sponge is attached to water inlet to prevent smaller livestock from being sucked into the intake.
  • Adjustable water flow switch ensures a flow rate suited to your particular aquarium.
  • Suitable for both freshwater and saltwater.

  • Unwrap the filter and accessories.
  • Remove the intake filter foam, filtering foam, and filter cartridges. Rinse well under cool water.
  • Carefully replace the filtering foam and/or filter cartridges, making sure they are properly seated all the way into the filter chamber.
  • Ensure the intake tube is properly inserted vertically into the intake chamber.
  • Taking note of the depth of the floor of your tank, combine the intake filter tube with the extension tube(s) for additional depth as necessary.
  • Cover the intake filter tube with the intake filter foam, making sure it completely covers the ribs of the tube.
  • Hang the complete filter assembly on the back or either side of your tank.
  • Fill the intake chamber with water until it begins to overflow into the filter chamber.
  • Turn the flow control knob to maximum flow (For Pico: knob located above intake tube must be turned parallel to flow. For Nano and Small: knob located inside intake chamber must be turned upright.)
  • Place the filter box cover on top of the assembly.
  • Fill your tank with water until the water level is 1/2 to 1 inch from the bottom of the runoff spillway.
  • Connect the power cord to an electrical outlet after observing proper safety precautions. The power cord should be connected with a drip loop.
  • Your filter should begin operation within 30 seconds. If the filter does not start, remove the filter box cover, withdraw the intake tube from the intake chamber, and then reinsert it.
  • For proper filtration, the water level in the intake chamber should never exceed the height of the runoff spillway.
  • The speed of filtration can be easily adjusted with the flow control knob (For Pico: knob is located above intake tube. For Nano and Small: knob is located inside intake chamber.)
  • Caution: Components of your filter should never be washed with tap water. This can lead to the death of the beneficial bacteria in your tank and subsequently your fish. It's recommended that old tank water following a water change is used to rinse these components.
  • Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.
  • Place some tank water in a small pitcher or bucket and set aside.
  • Carefully remove the filter from your tank and place it in a clean bucket.
  • Remove all foam elements. Pour some of the tank water from the pitcher into a small bowl and gently clean the foam.
  • For Nano and Small sizes, remove the filter cartridges and discard them. Rinse new filter cartridges in tank water from the pitcher.
  • If using filter bags filled with activated carbon, empty the contents of the bag and clean it in tank water from the pitcher. Fill the bag with new activated carbon and rinse the refilled filter bag with more tank water.
  • Clean any algae or lime deposits from the filter housing and rinse thoroughly with water from the pitcher.
  • Carefully replace all removed items.
  • Hang the filter back on the side of your tank and fill the intake chamber with water until it begins to overflow into the filter chamber.
  • Turn the flow control knob to maximum flow (For Pico: knob located above intake tube must be turned parallel to flow. For Nano and Small: knob located inside intake chamber must be turned upright.)
  • Place the filter box cover on top of the assembly.
  • Make sure the water level of your tank is 1/2 to 1 inch from the bottom of the runoff spillway.
  • Connect the power cord to an electrical outlet after observing proper safety precautions.
  • Your filter should begin operation within 30 seconds. If the filter does not start, remove the filter box cover, withdraw the intake tube from the intake chamber, and then reinsert it.

For better filtration, we recommend filling your filter housing with biological media. The addition of biological filter media will create a more suitable habitation for beneficial bacteria to grow, enriching your aquarium and keeping a more reliable and balanced ecosystem. An appropriate biological filter media that we suggest is the Bio Filter Media by Sera which can be placed directly into your filter housing.

For the replacement of your carbon filter cartridges, we recommend using Nylon Filter Bags by Ocean Five in combination with our ROX 0.8 Activated Carbon. The Nylon Filter Bags are also suitable for keeping other smaller filter media contained in your filter housing.

Filtering Foam should not need to be replaced with proper maintenance.

    Great product

This filter was recommended for my ultum nature systems 45 u nano aquarium. I was very surprised at how quiet this hob filter is, and pleased that you can adjust the flow of the water circulating threw the aquarium.. Great product!!

    WORSE FILTER EVER

This filter made awful noise since I first purchased it, and the problem just got worse over time. I contacted the store right away and they told me that this is a good filter and I must be doing something wrong. When the problem just got worse and I sent a video of it, they said they'd refund me for it if I mailed it to them, at my own expense. I didn't want to spend more money on this waste of a product. So I lost nearly $30 on something that only served to frustrate and destroy the peace in my house with its awful, defective noise. Don't buy this filter!!
